Miss , Lowndes Cty ,  September the 8th  1862  
   Affectionate Son I once more seat myself to drop 
you a few lines in answer to your verry exceptable leter 
dated the 27th of August  the  which came to 
hand the 6th of this month which gave us gret 
Satisfaction to hear from you but sorry to hear that 
you had the mumps  we are all well at this time 
but nearly woren out passing back and forward 
to see your brother George  he is still lying at 
the point of death at Nelsons  there is too of us 
goes every nite to set up with him  I left there 
this morning and he was as low as he could be to 
be alive altho apears to be in his rite mind when 
he is awake but when he is asleep he is talking 
franzy  Doctor Bean has gave him out and I do not 
think he can live too days longer  your mother has 
been there too weeks today except one day and 
nite  George is perfectly resigned to death and 
says he wants to be buried at your uncle Andrews 
all he regrets is leaving Mary and the children 
without a home  he has been confined to his bed 
ten weeks last friday  he is a perfect skeliton 
your brother John and Winfield left last Thursday 
to go to hamptons Company at Saltilo

the balance of the boys you left is all gone 
the conscript has cleaned them all out  Clay 
Odom and William Sain is gone  Andrew Eggers 
so is not gone but they are looking for the 
Cavelry after him every day  James Eggers Andrew 
is fixing to start to Cpt Rowins company 
Discharges is no acount  they take all that is 
able to walk  they have taken John Brown  he 
is gone at this time to Enterprise to stand 
an examination  William A, Egger is not yet 
able to go  he still has them spells  we are 
done pulling foder and got all up without rain 
we had three thousand bundles and one 
stack of old foder  I caried wool to santfords 
to make David and you hats  they are to be done in 
too weeks then I will send them the first chance 
they are making you too pair of pants and will 
send them the first good chance  we wish you 
to still write often  we have got three leters 
from you since you left which was great 
satisfaction to hear from you and I will rite 
as often as I can  my mind is confused and 
I must close and may god protect you
