My Dear,
Through the Blessing of a
Merceifull Providence, I am permited
to Write this Sabath morning in
good health except some of my old
Rumatism my left arm and Shoulder
and right knee hurts me considerable
oweing (I think) to my geting vary
wet Day before yesterday going to
take the Boys Rations to them
they have been down on picket ever
since monday morning, they have
had a bad time of it, for there fell
a snow here last Tuesday night,
good knee deep, it was just such
a time as when Semantha Died,
I hope it was not so bad on
that side of the mountain as
Henry says it was not that deep,
at Christiansburg. I baked bread
that night for ten men two days
rations, and the snow blowed in
my shanty so I could not lie down
[page 2]
So I set up all night [??] you
may suppose I Slept very little
But I must quit this subject and
answer your kind letter, which Henry
brought me, I was very glad and
I hope thankfull to hear you was
all well and doing well as you
are, and right here I will remark
that we ought to be very thankful
and repose the utmost confidence in
Him who has always been merciful
to us, and made a way for our es-
-cape so fare, for he hoeth all thingps
well and sufferethy not a sparrow
to fall to the ground without his
notice, His Eye is ever over
the righteous and his Ear is open
to his Prays O that God would always
grant us that spirit of Prays, that
would be exceptable in his sight.
I drempt last night that I was at
preaching at Concord and hered Mr
Lawson preach, and helped him sing
Praise God from who all Blessings
flow, I thought you and mother and
all my Friends, generally was there,
and you cant imagine how happy I
felt, but I awoke and alas alas it
was nothing but a dream
Henry says Mother complains that none
of us writes a word to her, tell her
