We are sorry to report that Private Voices co-director Michael Montgomery passed away on July 24 at the age of 69. Michael was Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of South Carolina and a respected scholar of American and British dialects, having published numerous books and articles on the subject. He was a founder and guiding force behind the Corpus of American Civil War Letters, and the project will continue to be an important part of his substantial legacy of scholarship.
