Sunday June the 14th 1863
Camp Triune Tenn

Dear Sister Mandy
I seat myself this
pleasant sabath morning to answer
yours of the 7th of this month which
came to hand yesterday and was
read with pleasure. I was sorry
to hear that your heel was sore
But I hope that it is all right
By this time if it is not it will
Be when your toe bursts
I am all right this morning
this is one of the Beautiful
mornings of the sunny south
the sky is perfectly clear and
there is a gentle wind Blowing
just Enough to make it pleasant
we dont have any of those strong
winds here like we have in Jasper
only when we have a storm
[page 2]
But we have some very warm
days. but the nights are cool or
rather the mornings from one oclock
untill daylight. when we go to Bed
we are uncomfortable warm with one
Blanket over us But before day
we can stand 2 Blankets very well
yesterday some of our men went
out foraging yesterday and they
found a patch of onions of about
2 acres and they went for them
they carried in all they could carry
and sargeant Payne got about a
peck of young Potatoes so we had
a feast this morning. I dont think
that Frant will Ever have to
coax me to Eat onions again or
anything Else that is good to Eat
for I can Eat anything now and
I dearly love onions so you can see
that the war has done something
[page 3]
for my appetite Bully for
the war or any other man
I have got my hair Shingled
right short all over my head
so you need not Be uneasy
about me getting snatched Bald
headed for my hair is so Short that
they could not get a holt of it
you had Better Beleave that
I look fearce
I was Sorry to hear of the deaths
of them Boys in the 48th But
I supose that they will not be
missed as much as they would
if they had familys depending
on them for a living But still
it is Bad Enough anyhow.
Well mandy it is Evening Evening
now we had preaching at 4 oclock
this Evening the day went out Rather
Rough we had quite a little storm
[page 4]
about sundown one limb off
a tree in our camp fell on
2 pup tents in company D,
but there was no one in them or they
would have Been killed a Rebel
Lieutenant and a private came
into our camp to day and gave
themselves up they said that they were
tired of fighting they said that old
Bragg was marching on to attact
our camp and he said that they
had five days Rations in their
haversacks I supose that they think
it will take them five days to clean
us out of here I think that they
will need more Rations then that
before they get through with us
well it is getting late and I must
close and go to Bed I have answered
Ever letter that I got from you or any of
my folks But mats last one that I got
with yours and I will answ it in the
morning if nothing hapens write to
