barberville Ky july the 29th 1862
Dear father and mother
I lift my pen this to drop
you a few lines to inform you that
I am well at the present time
and I hope when this letter reaches
you it may find you all in good
health I received your kind letter
yesterday wich I received with great
pleasure I was glad to here you was
all well I s[t]ill remain in the
hospital here at this place yet
and I dont expect git away from
here soon I expect we will be here
all summer I cant git awafrom
here now on no consideration
not while ther is any sick here any
how the doctor has the power ove[r]
nurses and he can keep us as long
seese fit or as long we are <kneded?>

there is about three hundred
sick soldiers here from the difernt
regiments this is a general hospital
here they send men from all the
regiments here there is a great many deaths among
the soldiers here there is a great many
being discharged there was seven
of the 49 went throug here yesterday from
one company and they all was discharged
there is lots and scores of men never
will be any more acount I havent
much to write to you only I am well
and well satisfied and we have plenty
to eat flour bacon beef mutton coffee
shugar and dried fruit and a furstrat
cook as good as need for well
I mus git for this time it is very
worm and sultry I want you to
write as soon as this comes to hand
so no more at this time only remain-
ing yours until death so good by
