Mrs Huffer
I this evning
received your letter
Directed to your
Husband Henry F
Huffer.you have herd
I Suppose befor this of
the Death of your dear
I can sincerely sympathise
with you in your loss &
so does all of the company
for he was a good brave
& respected officer in my
company but we were
compelled to part from him
he was on the Battle field
on monday.
[page 2]
and all the Boys from
there or any where near
Stood up like men and
not one flinched that
was on the field
after the fight some 8 or 10
days your Husband was taken
with something like his
old disease & as he was
not verry stout I had
writen him a Discharge
and the Doctor had signed
it and it was sent to
head quarters and if he
had of lived 2 weeks
longer he would of been
home with you again.
worse this time than at
any other spell of sickness
he had ever had
[page 3]
before and after he
was taken he only lived
6 or 8 days. and his thoughts
to the last were of you
and the children
no more at present but
believe me your friend
