Camp Sherman Miss Sept 2 63

Catharine I got a letter from you last
night it was wrote August the 21 63
and I will answer it the first thing
this morning I have but little to right
this time every thing is quiet here yet
there is a good deal of sickness here we
buried three men out of our Regt yester
day there is severel in the hospital that
that is bad off we only have one in our
Company in the hospital and that is
Iven Phillips Abraham Heywood is not
well and severel of the boys is grunting
a round but not dangerous I think we
will be scattered out before long and I
think health will be better then
we are looking for the boys back in a few
days that went home on furlow I want
to see them come so that I can get to see
all your likenesses I think I would
know the boys I have been looking at them
here this morning and it looks natural

you wanted to know if I had the
ring yet that you sent me I have not I
broke it carriing a box of crackers I
will send you some of my beard in this
letter I have not shaved since I left
home but my beard has not got
to be much longer than it was when
I left home I hope you will get to
see me this fall or winter but I
cant tell when yet there is three to
go yet before me and I think they will
all go this time if they do I will get to
on the next <squdd?> but if the army
mooves before then it will be apt to
stop furlowing for a while I hope the
war will soon end so that we can all
get home I hear that ft sumpter is
taken but I am a fraid it is not
so I guess they are fighting now at
Charlston and I hope our men will take
the place and then think the war
would soon be over the soldiers all
thinks the war will end this winter

and they will fight to end it
if they get a chance but I hope
we wont get the chance to fight
any more but if we get to where
the Rebs is if they stand there
will be heard fighting done all the
soldiers here is well satisfied and has
plenty to eat and plenty to wear and
plenty of money we was Paid two
months pay day before yesterday I
will send you twenty dollars by Mar
shall Bullock we have two months
pay due yet Catharine I want to
know whether you have sold my
wheat or not and how much you have
yet on hands let me know if you
have any corn or meat I want to
know how you are getting a long let
me know every thing you can think of
for it is all nuse to me I wish I had
some thing strange to write to you that would
interest you O yes at this time the 12
indiana Brass Band is playing very

Music they are camped a bout
two hundred yards from here it goes
nice our sheep skin Band cant
make very good music yet they
are nearly all sick this leaves
me in good health and fine sperits
and I hope I will get to see you
before long I want you to keep in
good heart and do the best you
can I will take the best care
of my self that I can so dont
be uneasy a bout me Hen
and Wm steel will write
soon I will close for this
time I will write every weak
