Dear Catharine this is sunday
August the 7th 64 I got some
letters form you yesterday that
Wm sent from the Regt to me
I was glad to hear that you
was all well I am still nurse
in the Hospital yet it is not
as hard work as it is with the
Regt and there is not the danger
here that there is thare there
was hard fighting yesterday but
I have not heard what was
done it is a sight to see
the sick and wounded that is
here now and is still come
ing in every day you wanted
wanted to know if I thought
the war would soon end I dont
think it will last long For
there will not be men to fight

you must keep in good
heart if the war dont end
this fall I will not rent the
house and you can keep house
until I come home next summer
but I think I will be at
home before then we have nice
weather here we have rain
every few days that keeps the
air cool and pleasant I dont
know what to write for I have no
nuse to write only I hear that
a bout half of the 71 boys was
taken Prisners a few days a
go I saw volentine Bartley
he was in the fight but he got
a way he says he thinks that Cal
stalcuf was taken Pris ner
with the rest of the boys I
want Jane to let me know
if Wilkie was with them
Direct to me as I Commeneed
this letter and I think they will

come safe Will got the
money you sent it is half
for him he will send it to
me be fore long we have not
been Paid yet I don[t] think we
will be until this campaign
is over Hellow here comes
Cal Stalcuf he was taken
Prisner but got a way and
walked a bout 75 miles
to camp he looks well but
is very tired I will not write
any more to day I will finish
in the morning this is the 8th
no[t]hing strange I see three ded
men this morning but that is
nothing new my ink is so bad
that I cant write I dont
know How Hen is getting along
I have not herd from him for
some time he was at Rome
and was doing well the last
I heard from him.
