Goldsborough N C Apr 6, 65
Dear Catharine
This morning I will try to write
you a few lines to let you
know that I am well I got
two letters from you yesterday
one was dated the 8th & one the
17th of last month they Braugt
us the sad nuse of Janes Death
by her death I have lost a friend
and one that I dearly loved I do
wish that I could have been at
home so that I could have
helped to wait on her but I
know that she was well taken
care of we all have to Die
if we live to get home we
will miss her so bad I do
wish she could have lived to
see us at home a gain we
have a little over four months

to stay I think we will soon
start on a campaign from this
place and if we live to get
through it I hope we will
get home safe I see by your
letter that you had started
some things to me by mail
they have not come to hand yet
I got stamps from you twice
I dont get but little war nuse
Health is good in our Regt
the troops is in good heart
and thinks they can whip the
Rebs where ever they find them
the men is all well clothed
and shod a gain and they look
like a new army I still
Blow the Bass tuber yet [tuba]
I like it very well I wish

you could see us go on dress
Perade we can make god music
we have ten horns one Bass
Drum & one snair Drum
and symbols we will mak
good music a gainst our time
is out I saw Thomas Crawford
a few days a go he is well I
saw old Adieu Kaper & Martin
Arthur yesterday Mart looks
well but Kaper looks bad
he sasys he is going to get a
discharge soon I saw Perry & John
Long a few days a go Perry looks
bad but John is stout Fount
Kelley was not well and he was
left at Buford Silas Connet
got a furlow and is gone
home he sayed he would be in
solsberry and I sent Hens
watch with him so that

he can get it when he gets
home I cant think of any more
to write at this time I will to
close O yes I think we will
soon have an other officer Ed
Corwin has been recomend for
a lieutenant and is looking
for his comision now he has
been a good and faithful
soldier and he deserves the place
I will write every weak as
long as we stay here
