dear father and mother both and
sister i take up my pen to let you
know that i am well we have
been moving a bout is the reasan
i did not write sooner first burnt bridge
below chickamagga i heard the yankees have
burnt ceder bluff mee and pery lyday and
is in a mess to gether i like this
plase very well if papa comes in a moth [month?]
send a pear of cotton pants there is no
chance for a fellow getting hom
now how write soon and
let me know how you are gitting
a long with the crops direck your

next letter where william is so i
can write him a letter i have nothing
more to write but remain your son
