Wincheter June 30th 1861
Dear Father and mother
I now take my pen in hand to write you
a few lines to let you know that I am well
hoping that this may find you all enjoying the
Same blessing Tell Susan I got her letter the 26 of
this month finding that you all was well
I dont know how long we will stay here but I Suppose
we will Stay here untill the 4th of July or
untill lincoln congress mets and Sustain him in war or make peas
I got a letter from John the day before I got that from
Susan in which he said that you all was well
I wrote him one back two or three days ago as the
day is Sunday it dont look like Sunday here much
in our regiment a young man by the name camp
belonging to captain bees company got Shot by accident with his pistol
the ball intering in the breast and died in a few minets
this happen the 26 of ths month The farmers is here Just commence
cuting wheat The wheat crops looks tolerably well
here Some of the boys got a letter from home hearing
that they had rain which I was verry
glad to hear Susan wrote that She
had Saw Several letters that the boys had wrote
in which She Said that they wrote there or [1]
four pages they have got more to write than I have
I have hired all my washing done but once
our mess is getting along verry well

as far as cooking is concern I have Stood guard
Several times it is not as bad as i exspected
it would be our mess is gettting along verry well
bill varner has quit it
Susan I was glad to get your letter
hoping that this may not be the last one that you
write I am glad to get I want to hear from you all
Tell Sanford folk that calvin is well as I have no more
to write at present I will close
