Yazoo City Miss Sunday June 4th 1863
Dear wief
I seat my Self this morning to drop
you a few lines hopeing it will find you and
the childering well & doing well I am here at
the Hospittal yet I am mending Slow but I think
I am about as well as I have bin since
you Saw me last my health has not bin good
Since you come to see me I am assisting
the ward master in giveing medecine to
the Sick men it is quite and easey bi[??]
and the Dr thought I had better not go to
camps yet and I noe the camps is aney
thing elce but a pleasent place at this time
I exspect I Shall stay here a week two and
ma be Longer I could go in as a regler nurse
& stay as long as tha Keap up this Hospittal
but I dont want to do that I had ratjer
stay with the Regt than to do that this Citty
is called a powerful sickly hole in the
Summer time it has a population of a bout
2300 in habritants its situated on the banks
of the Yazoo River 60 miles from the Miss River
when the river rises High comes over

river [????] great [??] vally on [??] side

Sunday Eavning
[???] Hills covered with cane we use cistern
warter it is verry good warter and get
[plenty?] to eat here such as it is and in camp
I would get less I have got but one letter from
you since I come out here however Guss did
bring two and then I got he one you sent to Jackson
I am getting verry anceous to here from you &
the childering I herd from the Regt this morning
tha are at a Town called Vernon I herd the heavyst
cannon aiding all day yesterday I ever heard in
my lief in the Direction of vicksburg the big
fight has not come of[f] yet but we are looking
for it daily I dont noe the reson that it has
not come of[f] u[n]less our forces are waiting for more
reenforcements it will have to come off soon or tha
will starve our men out I have rote a letter and
sent by Hargra[w?] to Father about a Sub & by not hereing
from him I am a fraid he never got my letter
when you rite let me noe whether he got it or not
I dont noe what I will doe for shoes and close
thare is none to draw here I [???????????????]
of yet and I have not got the mony to by with and
Thare is no cearnty in ever getting them if you was
to try to send me aney in [fact?] it is to uncertain for you to by
[??] I am makeing out verry well so fer but will
nead them bad before verry long you write to me [???] [???]
you get this write to this place
I have plenty of paper now tell the childering all howdy for me
