Yazoo Cittey Miss June 15th 1863 Sunday
Dear wief I seat my
Self this Eavning to drop you a few
lines I am here at the Hospittle yet but
I am well hopeing these few lines will
find you and the childering well The Brigade
are gon on towards Vicksburg The Dr
would not Let me go when tha
started he sed I had better stay
a few days longer Lieut Demsey of
the 25 Ga is here he is going to start
to the Brigade to morrow or next [day?] I
shall go with him when he goes
I here The Brigade crossed Big Black [River]
on saturday eavning late that is a bout
25 miles from here it will take us
Several days to ketch up with the
Regiment for we dont aim to go more
than 10 or 12 miles a day we aim to take
our time for it for the wether is powerful
Hot & dry warter will be verry Skarse
the Country is verry hilly from here to
Vicksburg high & Big hills covered over
with cane a great place for BushWhackers
& it is fered that thare is sum in these
parts the yanks have entrenched all a round
Vicksburg and thay are going to be powerfu hard to

that is if I can get any paper

I want to see you and the childering Kiss them

to see them powerful bad I can emagine I see you
all now at the Table eatting supper I had a fine Dinner
to day Thare was a ladey sent me my Diner that was good
the best I have eat since I left home It was boiled ham
Beans & cabage squashes beats it was good shore I wish I had
such a one ever day if did I would soon get fat agane
I rote you that Capt Hightower was gone to Ga after close &
he started but Genl. Johnson turned him back would not
let him go I am almost barefooted and will soon be
out of close and what I will do for close & shoes the lord
only noes I dont but I wont be by my self for the boys
are all with out close to we have drawed no more & thare
is no telling when we will we are bound to see
hard times I thought we was seeing hard times
on the coast but that was like home to this
place
Monday Eavning June 16th 1863
Dea wief I did not get to finish my letter yesterday
so I will finish it to dy we have had a fine rain
to day I did not get off to day but I will start on
to morrow morning to the Regt I dont noe where
tha are sum where on the on the other side of big
black when I herd from them last tha were going on
down big black to wards vicks burg I have no Ideer
but what tha will be fighting before I get to them
but when this fight begines it will be 7 days fight
or longer like tha had before richmond and
thare is bound to be Thousands of men kiled the
yankeys are reported 200.000 two hundered thousand
strong The report is that our men at vicksburg
are dying fast with collery if that is so it is a bad
chance I dont look for any thing elce but the
way we have to live on beaf & no Salt for us to take
the collery two This place is all filled up sick
soldiers Thare is about 9 hundered sick here now
I have not got a letter from [you] si[n]ce the one I got
dated the 20th of may I want to here from bad
but it may be a long time befor I here from if evr
it is reported thare is hevy force come to reenforce
Genl Banks I think he has a bout as many now as
we can ever do any thing with I dont think
we have more 70.000 Thousand men when you
rite Direct your letter to Jackson Miss Wilsons
Brigade Walkers Division so no more only remain your ever loveing
