My Dear and loving
I Seat my Self down this blesed morn
ing to inform you that I am well at
present hoping that thes few lines may
find you well & doing well I Resevd
2 letters from you this weak one was
Rote the day after you got Spider bit
& the other cence I am truley Sorrey
that you hapend to Such bad luck
it looks like every thing is working
aganst us but I w[?]ley pray & hope
that it will not hurt you the last
letter had 50 cents in it & you never
named it in the letter I doant no what
you Sent it fur we drawed money the
26 them that had drawn no Shoes
drawn 20.53 them that had got shoes
drawn 18.00 I got 18.00 dollares & I oed
the most of it I believe I Rote to you
that I had baught me a uniform the
Clothes was made at the Rosewell fac
tory & give 8.25 cents fur it Redy made
& you cant by the cloth fur that money
it would take over 8 yards of cloth to make
me pants & afrock tail coat & you can sell
ever yard you make at 1,25 per yard & doant
you take no less you mite mad[e] me some

bin 10 chances to one if I had ever got
them unless I was station on the Rail
Roade I left the gap on a Scout the 12
I volenteard & went with Capt Thomases
compney we had to make his compney up
to 50 & it took 14 of us to do it & we had
the privelidge of volentearing & I was like
Common the first man out thare
was about half of us volenteard & the
Rest was forst out & if I hadent volenteard
I would had to went enyhow we marcht
that day 10 miles & campt & stade thare
til the 17 & then we left at Sun down
& waded Rivers how ever we waded 2 Rivers
I Rote this to you before I think we met
the balance of the brigade at the Second
River tha left the gap the Same nite
we left our camps I had [words marked out]
5 dollars worth of tobacco tha give that
all away & I exspect tha thowd part
of my clothes away I had on my unifor
m tha Sent our nap Sacks to morestown
but we heard that the wagon broke
down & tha Set fier to the pile if
tha have I am left in a prety fix &
if tha have I doant intend to have
but one Sute of clothes & when it
wares out then by anuther I have got
my coat I put it on Thurdsay fur the first

time William .P. has come to the camp
he is in prety good helth he wayes 135 &
I way 1.55 if you nead eny money
Rite to me & if I ant got it I can git
it I hyer all of my cooking I have eat
my dinner out in the contry twice
this week & got Beens & every thing
that was good but I had to pay 50
cents per meal I got aletter from Mother
& Molinda cence I bin hear & one from
Frances Self & one from Elisabeth
Jane Self Molinda Sent me a brade
& Francis Sent me abrade & Elisabeth
Sent me two of the pretys hands &
harts you ever saw & She told me
to keep the pretys one & Sell the other
fur fifty cents & I Rote her aletter back
& Sent her the money & kept both &
will send you one in this letter but
I will keep the larges one & the pretys
one the one I keep has 2 letters of my
name one the harts on the Rist & 2
gold Ringes on the fingers you sent
me two brades & never named but one
in your letter I doant want you to send
eny more money heare I had Ruther send
ten dollars that way then fur you to
Send 5 cents heare I paid fur my cooking
with your 50 cents we have but 2 frying
pans & one Skillet to our compney

I got Rashings cooket fur 5 of us fur
50 cents I made aplication for a trancefur
to Join a artilrey compney & the capt
nor the coln wont give me up nor non
of the compney wants me to leave I git
13 dollars per month & doant have to stand
gard & can git ever thing hald & Ride
my Self John Cain had 2 brothers
thare & he got a trancefur & tha are
Jest like Brothers to me & capt yeizer
Ses that he entends to have me if he
has to press me in to his compney
capt of a artilrey can take men out
of eny compney of the Same State that

every thing after the 2 day of next
month we all have to pay 10 cents
per weak the way we have bin Riting
So I wont Rite no more til you ansure
this letter me Rite one weak & you the
next with out Something hapens then
Rite amedeatley & I will do the Same
I could Rite a letter a mile long but
I hant got time nor paper nothing
but Remains yours truley until
