My Dear wife
it is with grate plasure I take
this opper tunity of Riting you a
few lines to in form you that I
am well at this time hoping that
these few lines may find you all
well & doing well I much of intrest
to Rite at this time thare is nothing
new in camps now we are Still heare
a Spending what money we can git for
Somthing to eat we draw for 3 days
at a time & it Jest dose us 2 days by
tite work & half living this is one
of the damdest Swindeling Machines
that I ever Saw in my life I go
over to See my darling ever too
or three days but it allways
costs me a quarter tha doant
charge me but I doant want
to eat eny Bodys meat & bread as
hy as it is heare fur nothing tha
give me Rite Smart at that

think I live as well as enybody
thare is 2 or 3 dying every weak
out of the Regt & it may next
be mine & if I ever git in to a
fite I exspect to bid this world
good by fur I doant exspect to
live through one battel but I
intend to kill as many of them
as I can we was formed in line
to Shoot off our guns the other day
& Some of them trimeld so tha
could hardley Shoot & if tha had
bin in a battel & the balls flying
Round as thick as hail tha would
drop ther wax it did not friten
me abit I hit a tree about 1.50
yards & if I had bin in abattel
it would made a difrence but them
is the Sort that gits kild & I dont
field that it is entended So lite your pipe
& turn the other leaf
