Jones Station August 10 – 1862
Dear wife I Seat
may Self to inform you that I am
well at this hoping that thes few lines
may find you all well & doing well
I havent much to Rite this time onley
that we are Still waiting fur orders
to move we exspect to go to Tazwell
Some 4 miles from this place I have
heard that we got 7 peaces of artilrey
whare tha had left them tha cold
not git them away & had to cut loos
& leave ther peaces we got all of there
Comersery Stores & haver Sacks & napt
Sacks & ther contents tha had fine
lady dresses & ladeys under dressing
also 48 No 1 Rifel muskets tha have
Retreated back to Comberland gap &
I think we will be orderd to march thare
in a Short time if we cant take the
gap we can Surround it & peresh them
out & then we will go through
Caintuckey & Clean that out Report
Says that our forses in East Tennes
is one hundred thousan Strong &
if we are that Strong we will drive them
the other Side of the ohio River whare tha belong

I havent much to Rite this time I Rote
aletter the other day & you will git
both at once onley this is a littel later
I havent got my things from beans station
yet amost all the Rest has got there
things we held an election this morning
& my Self & 34 others & I tide the
one withe the company that was heare
& the lewtenent wated til 2 come
from beans Station that he new
would vote fur Martin & he gave
them tickets & let them vote & then
closed the Election when tha was
5 of my mess at Beans Station &
Coming on behind & he wouldent
wait fur them to vote So I Still hold
my part as drumer & entends to leave the
compney if things doant change
but one thing Sirtan I will be a tick
on his Stirn & keep him a Scraching
the balance of this ware fur I never
fur git & durnd Sildom ever forgive
John Wilson & Thomas has come
to beans Station & Sent me howdy
but if you Sent eny thing by them
I hant heard of it I would bin glad

last letter I was halted from
Riting by Reseving & letter from you
witch I gladley Reseved I Jest Stated that
I onley Resevd aletter once a month & I did
not miss it much fur you Sade that you
was ansuring a letter that I Rote July 15
& I Reseived it to day the 10 that onley
lacks 5 days of a months & you Sade you
did not want that girl to fall in love
with me too much the devel of it is I
have left thare & I doant exspect to go
back thare eny more but I can find
them all over tennessee that is of
the Rite Stock but if we go over
in caintuckey I will try a new Stock of dogs

of cards & gambling I play Some times but
