August 15th 1862

Dear mother I take my seat this
morning to write you afew lines to
let you no how I am geting on I am not
well my self Brother is in fine
health we left Richmond yesterday
morning to reinforce Jackson he has got
the yankies cut off it sposed that he has
got About 4 thousand of them cut off and
they have got to Run or give up or
fight one of the three they air
Compeld to Do somthing we air now
Close to where we was last march
Orange Co House it is a Beutiful Place
rite in the mountins the Best water
that you Ever Drank in youre life
and we have got some hard fiting
to do now and hard marching too
you talk about hard times at home
it is nothing to what it is here some
times we have to march all day an
night without any thing to Eate
and when we get it, It is not
fit for a Dog to Eate

we would all get wet well I will
