Campt Near Fredricks Burg va
December 21rst 1862
Dear Ma
I take the time and
opputunity this morning to
write you afew lines to let you
no that Brother and my Self
air Both well and in good
health and I hope those few
lines may find you and the rest
of the family Engoying the Same
Blessing I have not got any nuse
to write to you that will
interrest you at this time
Only we have had some
mity hard fighting here
for the last week the yanks
crost the River with full
force they thought that they
would whip us But it
was all a mistake they

got whipt they had 2 men
to our one and we whipt
them But our Brigade was
not in the fight But we
was Ready wiling and waiting
for the yanks to Advance But
they did not come we was
in line of Battle > days
and nights with out any
fire to warm By and if
the yankes had a come
up to where we was lying
we would of Kild all of
them for they had to
come up in a oald field
and we was Behind the
Brest works and we
Could of hurt them Purty
Bad
Well that is all the
Nuse I have at Preasant
to write to you I rote
To you some time

that was agoverment shop
in Hayneville or not if
it is ask mr Jeter or mr
[????] one if they will take
me in and write to me
as soon as you find out
an you let me no what they
say about it So nothing
