Dear ma
I take my pen in hand this morning to
ancer youre kind letter which I recived the
8th of this month I was more than glad to
here from you and to here that you
was all well you will find in this
that I am well at this time and I hope
this will find you the Same you
must not think hard of me for not
ancering youre letter before now we
was on along march at the time I
recived the letter and this is the
first time I have had to write Since
we left Fredericksburg we came to
Richmond and taken the train and
left for charleston South Carlina we
air 4 hundred miles near home than
we was two weeks ago and it is thought
that we will go to Savanah Ga and
I do hope that we will for I am tird
of this place the water is not fit for
a dog to Drink but it is the best thair is
Down here we air Campt in

coald field and thair is not atree on
the place we get the See Breeze and
that is all that Keeps the men from
fainting it is the warmest wether Down
here that you Ever Saw in youre life
I had Rather Stay in va too years than
to Stay here one for I tell you that we
got Just what we wanted in va and
now we air Put Down here on the
Island and we Cant get any thing at
all I have herd Since we got here that
we was not Going to Stay here verry
long and I do hope that we will bee sent
to Ga for if I have got to Stay in
the war all my life I want to go to ga
to do the Balence of my fighting if we
have to Stay here we will not get any
folloughs at all for the yankies air
Shelling this Place day and night all
the time they throw Shell Over here
that will way from 8 to 9 hundrd
lbs and I belive that they will take the
citty in less than 4 weeks it is no acount
to us no how thair is not any boddy living
in the citty but I tell you that this is
one of the Piretest places that you Ever
Saw in youre life I can See Every thing
on the Coast we Can get fish and

get I want to go when we can get Swet
Potatrs and Cabeg to Eate you Said

he says that he will write to you
Sirtin I got the fine Comb that you Sent
in the letter and I was glad to get it
