Dear ma
It is with great pleasure
that I again have the
opputunity of writing to
you to let you no that
I am well at preasent
and I hope this will
find you and the rest
of the family the Same
I have not Recd But one
letter from you Since
I left home we have bin
in hot Pirsute of
Oald Burnside for a
week and we have
treed him now at
Knoxville we have
Bin in line of Battle
Six days But we have

not had verry much
fighting yet we have
to get out in line Every
Knight the yankies a
have Burnt 25 houses
here Since we Came
to this place I think that
we will have a hard
fight here in less than
5 dadys [1] our Picket line
and the yanks air in 75
yds of Each Other and
we air Shooting all the
time they air in thair
Brest works and we
in ours I do hope that
we will whip them
and Drive them all
away from her So as
we can have some
Rest for we need it

we have Seen the worst
part of this war Since
we Came to Tenn I want

that I may hold out

peace in this world
it is now for Every thing
looks like this
war would last always
and I do Belive it will
Brother is verry Sick
at this time But I hope
he will Soun get well
