Brigade Hospital  
 May 14 1864  
 Dear ma  
 as I have the chance of sending  
 a letter off I will Drop you  
 afew lines to let you know how  
 the fight has come out  So far  
 we have given the yankis  
 the worst whiping they have  
 Ever had in all this war  
 and it is not over with yet  
 Oald Grant Says that he  
 will go to Richmond if he  
 dont get thair with but a  
 thousand men  the yankies  
 charged us 14 times last thursday  
 and we Repulcd them Every  
 time  they were all Drunk  
 and rite in front of  
 our Brigade thair is

 more dead yankies than  
 we have got men in oure  
 Brigade  we Just killed them  
 up like any thing  our men  
 was in Brest works and we  
 did not lose very many  
 thay air moving down to  
 wards Fredericksburg and  
 thair thay will get all  
 Sorts of awhiping  Oald  
 Burnsides has got 40 thousand  
 negros to fight us with and  
 thay air going to get whipt  
 our men air in good Spir[it]s  
 and feel confident that we  
 will whip them all Back  
 they Seeam to think that this  
 is the last fight if we air  
 Sucsesful in whiping them  
 and I hope we will

 this is the 11th day we have  
 bine fighting  I am geting on  
 very well at this time and  
 I am going to the Regt in  
 afew days and try them  
 again  write Soon and  
 give me all the Nuse  
 Give my Respects to all
