July 7th 1864
Dear ma
It is with great Pleasure that
I take my pen in hand this
morning for the purpose of
writing you afew lines in Order
to let you know how I am I have
Bin Sick aweek or mor But
I have not left the company yet
We air Beehind Breast Works
and We have rite Smart of
Sha[r]p Shooting on the lines
one of my company got Shot
through the hand the other
knight and it is thought by
the Company that he did it on
Purpose if he did it ought to
of bin his head in Stid of his
hand we air not getting
but verry Little to Eate at this
time it is all we can do to
make Out on Just Enough
to keep soule and Boddy to gether

I want you to writ to me as Soon
as you get this lettere and tell
me all the nuse and all So
tell me who has left Hayneville
and Comon out in Sirvice I have
herd that mr Jeter has gone in
Sirvice but did not find out
whether any boddy Elce was gone
or not you must tell me in
your next letter all who has
gone
Well ma
I have not herd a
word from Brother yet and if
you hear any thing from him
you must bee Sure and tell me
for I would like the best in the
world to hear from him you
must give my Respects to all
and Recive the Same for youre
