Mrs Everett
I have the honor to acknowleg
the receipt of your Short note, in which
you desire me to carry Some things for
your Son, But I regret the necesity
of denying the request, But in consequence
of the devastation of the Rail Road
by the Enemy, I will be compelled
to walk about fifty (50) miles,
Therefore it will be imposable for me
to carry Such things as will be nesessary
for my comfort I wish it was So
I could comply with your request I
would do so with pleasure
Verry Respt
