Dear father we arrived in yorke town the 16
an we had a hard time of it we had to mach
2 miles to get on the cars it was warm an dusty
we had our nap sacks on our backs I want you
it was fatigueing a we went to west point thair
we got a bord the steam ship an went to
yorke town an thair we landed an it cloude[d]
up in the evening an it Stormey an rain
ing an we had to march 3 miles in the
hardest rain an wind you ever saw an
lie all night on the cold wet ground me an
J has got a bad cold over half the [1]
Company is sick yorke town is the last
place in the world it has bin finish
for the last 50 years they hav me threw
ing up brest works most evrry day an
mount ing canon it is prety well forte
fide but it is no youse for if it was not
for the state the town is not worth
fordefying we can see the blockade evry
day I sent you a letter on the 12 in ind [2]
I dond think you wil ever get it

and grapes you never saw
