Camp Marion
February 23. 1862
Dear Mother
I now seat my self
to write you Afew lines to
let you no how we are all
getting along. I have been
sick for the last weak
but I am up now going A
bout I will be all right
in one or two days if I dont
get no worse though I am
not sick now only I feel
bad I had the fever was
what ailded me. the doctor
stopt it soon Benj is
sick he has been confind to
his bed two or three days but
he is up this morning going
about he has mist the
fever and is getting well fast
but I began to think once
that he was going to have

A hard spell of sickness but
he is sitting by the fier now
making up biscuits so you no
that he is getting better I was
sick when he was taken he
was wating on me when he
got sick and when he got I
got well I all ways hate to
se ben get sick for when
he gets sick he is sick shure
enough I had rather be sick
my self than to sea him
get sick it seams like that
I had rather suffer my slef
than to sea any of my people
espeecially when we are of from
home this is the first time
that Ben has been sick since
he left home and I hope
he will be sound and well
in A day or so. Dear Mother
I received your kind letter
afew days ago and was glad to

hear from you all and I was
surprised to hear you say that
you had not received but 4 or
5 letters from me for I have
written over 20 to you I no
since I left home I no you
have not got one third of the
letters that I have written
to you. but we cant help
that. well I will talk About
some thing elce we have had
some of the wettest and rainyest
weather I ever saw it has been
raining evry day now for two
weaks and the ground is Just
as wet and sloppy as it can
be. it is not very cold since
this wet weather set in well
we have not taken A tramp
now since Chrismas but we
were orderd to the other day
to be ready to march at
any time that we were

called on so we are looking for
A tramp now evry day for times is
getting very exciting here now at
this time but it will all
day away in Afew weaks
I think well colonel cobb is
trying to rase his Ligion to
five thousand and if he does
they say he will go to Tenessee
and I hope we will. Dear
Mother you wrote to me what I
wanted to eat well I am not
perticular what you send me
and Ben such as cake
or pudding potato pudding buttar
sausages and such like the
box you sent us last come to
us about a weak ago the pudding
and sausages was fine we got
both the boxes you and Father
sent to us and they went fine
to us shure well I must close
I remain your loving Son Jim
