Camp Near Richmond May 30 1862
Dear Father
I embrace this
opportunity of writing you
A short letter to let you
no how I am getting
Along I am well and
hope this may find you
all the same Benj is
well or was when he
went to petersburge he
has been gone to petersburge
several days he went after
tents him and several
more from the Legion
I am looking for him
evry day Dear Father I
was on Pickit last night
and while I was on there
I could see the lights of
the yankees camps but they

A long ways of[f] this morning
I hear them buming the
yankees the yankees was
in sight of us and they
way our men made them
scatter was the way I
have not heard whither
we killed any or not
some of our Legion saw
the yankees when they
run from the bums
we are stations by the
side of A branch and
there is and old feel
on one side and A
high hill and you
can go over on the
hill and sea the
yankees plain but they
are A good wayes of[f]

and they are on the
other side of the river
where we cant get
too them handy if we
could I gess they would
move Father write to
me where Sim Skinner
is gone and where I
must write to him
which post Office to
Direct my letters too I
wrote to you once to
give me his PO and
you said you would in
your next letter but you
have not done it yet
and I have not
wrote him but one
letter since I have
been in the army

he left home Father
we are now in A
pretty place now
water and wood is handy
so we dont have no trouble
I was made 4 Corpael
this morning G. B. Lively
is first Corpael Allen Boyd
is 2 and John Reece is 3
and me 4 Father write to
me soon give me
all the news About your
crop and your garden
have you got any English
peas if I could get A
good mess I would like
to sea me you set them
I must close you
