Dear Carie I lucke for a
letter from you last knite but
fail to get it I am so anscious to
hear from you I havn recivd
but one letter from you yet
I hav written three besids this
thes lines leav me up but not
well I hav had avry bad cole
but it is better we hav news
evry day from va I suppose the
big fight has com off & our
folks had drove the enemy back
with grate lose on both Sids the
news has got hear that Stone
wal Jackson had got ovr in
marylan taken the enemy as they
come god grant it I prey
it rain all day yestrday &
last knit it was vry disagreeble
wether I[t] lucks like farin off
this morning I hav Just bin
out on drill I am lerning to
drill vry fast I can drill

now Carie we got orders this
morning to cuok four dayes rashins

any meat but hog Jaws & beef
& after this weak weak we will
get 2 lbs of spilt bacon one
pint of surup [as] much rice as we
want & meal & a little flour

I dont know how long it will
last the govrment has cald fo[r]
ten men from each
company of our regiment they
want to form a battalion
of Sharp Shoters to bee arm with
rifels to bee attach to ouer begade
they [drew?] for them in ouer compny
they nevr drew any one that you
know only L W Pope [1] the morning
they drew I wished I was at hom
but they nevy drew me they hav
left yet it my bee like
Som other things I may get out
I dont blev they can arm
them with Sharp Shoters I must
close nothing more at present
only I remain your most loving
husban tell death I would like
to see you all the best kine I
had rether hear of pees then any
thing in the world kiss the childr

I could not finish on the
other pice of paper Carrie me
& John Peek bought a Sac of rice togather
waing one hundred lbs we
sent it to savannah yesterday
to send home we directed it to
Mr Mathisons Cuthbert ga it
cost $4.30 cts I recon the frate
will bee about one dolar I
want you to get it if you
can pay half the frait & take
half the rice John & Eli
Mc Keithron sent a sac to Mr Sasser if you could see
Mr Sasser I expect he would
bring it for you the reason
whi I bought it was the company
