gordonville va June 20 1862 Dear wife I hav movd about
Sixty miles from Stonton towards Richmond we ar stop at
gordonville I dont know how long we will Stay hear we may
leav in two ours or we may Stay two month I hav not hear from
you sens I left Savannah I am in a pack of truble about you all
I hav wrote three letters to you sens I left ga I recon you hav
got some of them by this time the yankey hav burnt up abrig
bteen hear & richmond we cant get to richmond on this railrodd
Some t[h]ink we may go to richmon but I dont I think we will
Just trot all ovr thes mountains some ses the yankey ar
trying to get in the reer of richmond if that be so that
what we ar movd hear for we ar in about Sevnty miels
of richmond Carie I am not well but I am up I hav had
Slite fevr for two days my bowels hav bin in bad order
I hav Just takin adost of qinine I havn eate any thing
hardley in two or three dayes I feal some beter this
moning

I have avery bad calf [1] I may be taken the measels the way
we hav to live hear is anof to kill any man we have
sleep on thes rocks with out any tents the nits
is vry coald the dayes hot I sleep coald evry knite
ouer captin hasen bin with the company sens I hav bin
in servis he is at home on asick furlo lieu tenant
[???] was left in savannah sick I expect he is gon home
Carie if you get this letter befor they leav home I wish
you would make me another neadle case & fit it out &
send it to me I lost mine & every thing I had in it
I left my ovr coat & bed tic & I hav mor to tote now
than I can get along with well by the time I march
all day ovr thes mountains with my gun nap sac
cartrig box havr sac cant twen I am vry tired thir
is a grate meny of owr boyes sick from the march

bck & John Arthur ones hayes frank & frances bruoks
bob walton I heard from John Pee[k] yesterday he is
mending he is in linchburg thir is nothing in thes
towns but hos pitles carie I cant tell you
whir to write I wil tell I want to see you
& the children wors then evry thing els I hav
one consolation you can hear from me wheter I
hear from [you?] or knon carie if I had knowed what
I now know I would of stad at home & missed the
con scrip if evr I get station I will tell you
