Lynchburg va July 14th 1862 Dear Carie I am not
well but I think I am on the mend I hope this few
lines may find you & the children & all the family
well & in goo[d] health I feal beter this evn sens I have
sens I have bin in the hospital I am in hops I will
bee able to go to my regiment in a few dayes thow
I am vry weak I cant walk more than three hunerd
yards without restin I feal Just like I did last year
when I got up out of that spel of the fevr I hav
a akin as my arms & legs they appear to be a [???]
I think if I had som one to [???] them I would hav got
Ovr it if I had something that I could eat I would
soon bee up thir is nothing hear fit for a Sick man
to eat green buef and pees for diner & lite bred
for super & breckfus ry coffe & bred get

[???????] dolars & fifty cents if I could get to

the fight at richmond Jenral Jackson was in the
fight & they wer under him one of owr company
died last Sunday at gordonsvill his name thir is now
was Roberts men died in this hospital last

at this [???] but they ar leving every day going
to ther regiments John Pee[k] is he is
about like I am he has been hear about a weke
longer thn I hav Carie chickens about the sise
of your bring fifty cents eggs fifty cents
beuf fifty cents [????] one dolar corn two
dolars per bushel Carie tell your pa he had
beter lay [a?] tobaco if he can get it
it is rising hear very fast it is coming
in every day it Sels from forty to sixty
dolars in the bundle the Speculators ar laying
all in Some think it will go up to [??] dolars
a half a pound Carie I hav not heard from
you Sens I ga I giv out all hops of
hearing from you I hav wrote seven or eight leters
to you sens I left ga I want you to write
son as you get this I dont know whether you
can read this or knon the paper is knon count
but it cost a dolar a quier give my best love
to all the family & all the conection
