gordonsville va Aug 6th 1862 My dear wife
I am tolloble well hoping you all ar the same
I landed in camps last evn found a good
meny of ouer men Sick J Peek & William Burk
ar left in ca[m]ps J Mc Kethron & T. Evrett ar with
us but they luoke vry bad in fact all the men
luok vry bad most of them ar complaining I left
Lynchburg yesterday morning at six oclock I found
my regiment the same evn about four oclock
a bout fiv miles from gor[d]onsville when I got
thir they wer packed up to march we started to
march we marced about twelve miles towards
the enemy by that time it was midnight
we never had any thing to eate tell this morning
then we never got any thing but flower salt
& rice we have draun som green beaf for diner
we ar a bout six miles north of gordonsville I
dnt know how long we will Stay hear we my
Stay a weak or we may leave in tuo howers thir
is a bout Sevnty fiv thousen trops under
Jacksons we ar expecten a big fight evry day old
Janral pope has a learge force of yankey about fifteen
miles from hear I hav not made any raingements
to exchange regiments yet I dont know whether I can
duo it or knon I havn sed any thing to my officers a
bout it yet

Carie when I got to the regiment I recivd four letter
three of them was from you one from ret tuo of
yours wer backed to Savannah the other to Stanton
I was vry glad to get them the one you sent to
Stanton had som nice scraps of cloth in it I thorte
was vry prety I wish I was thir to war them you
Stated that you wanted some paper if I only
could of got your letter befor I could of sent it
so easy I could get it thir for one dolar a quir [1]
up hear paper is worth tuo dolars a quir Carie I d[r]eu my
bounty this morning they ar due me twenty
tuo dolars more I dont know when I ever get that
& it is nearly time to d[r]au cloes or the money
they will bee twenty five dolars of that if we
ever get it I want to drau the money & send it
home & get close if they will let me if I could
drau all they ow me I would hav nearly a
hundred dolars but they duo as the pleas pay
when ever they get redy I ou some of my bounty
I wish you had half of it I am a fraid to send it
by letter by the time I pay what I ow out of it
& by my ink & paper & something to eate thirr wont
bee much lef that is if I can find any thing to buy
