Dear Carie I am tollable well hoping you all ar the
Same we ar in camps twenty five or thurty miles
north of gordonsville we hav bin marcen evry
day & knight more or les evr Sens I bin with the
regiment we Started the Same day I got in camps
& to day is the firs day we have laied ovr yester
day was the warmest day I evr Saw I come vry near fainten
on a force march thir was sevral of owr regiment
fainted thir was a fight up hear last Saturday
owr trops tuok the battle field I Saw Several
yankey prisners the ded men & wonded wer Scatterd
for a mild they ar Stop to bery the ded
to day I was in hearing of the cannons it made
the coald chils run ovr me one of owr regiments
went out on picket the other knight they
wer on picket knight they brought in four prisners & three
horses it was duglarses regiment I will give
you the nombers of the regiments in owr begade
they ar all georgians the 13 the 26 the 31 the 30 the 60
& 61 I expect the fighting will commens tomorow
or nxt day if it dos I expct it will bee a
blodda battle we ar clost to the enemy they
have a large force I dont know what ouer
force is I sur pos sixty or seventy thousan
we have left Sevral of owr boyes behind we
only have thurty repo[r]ted for duty & some
of them ar not well J Peek W Burk & J
Mc Keithron ar all left behind Sick Tom
Everett is with us if I should get in a
fight I will bee one of the culer guards
I have bin marchin bey the side of the
culers ever Sens I bin up with the company

I dont know whether I evr Shall see you in
this wold or knon but if I dont I hope to mee[t]
you all in heaven I dont want you to grive
after me take it the best you can we drau
bacon & crackers oueer capten is behind sick I
dont know whether I can make the exchange with
John Tailor or knon I mention it to the capted
befor he left he did not give me any ancer
I want you to write soon as you get this
letter & giv me all the nues I hav not heard
from you sens I left Lynchburg direct
your letter to gordonsville va 31 reg comp E cear
capt Orr Jacksons armey I must close I cant
think of eny thing to write it is a bad
chance hear to get aletter to the post office
carie you will have to pay the postage I cant
get any Stamps if I could get them I could
not carie them with out ruin them I will Send
you some stamps if I ever get whir thir
is any nothing more at present kiss the
childred for me evry day give my best
