My Dear wife & children I imbrace the present
opportunity of droping you a few lines I am
not well but I am So I can keepe up I am
in a place cald livingston in a horspitle I am
not to Say Sick I hav the direr & had to march So
hard we hav bin marchen evry day & knight for
a weake had to waid river & creaks the enemy wer
retreaten & we under a force march after them
we got in reach of ther Shels the day I left them
I went to the rapahannac they made Shels fly all
a round us one man wonded in owr company they
have bin fiting for a bout a weak it is Sed ouer
forces ar at manassas that is about sixty miles
from hear ouer forces captur a greate meny
prisners I saw three hundred & ten in one

I had to throw all of my clos a way except
what I had on & my blanket I wish I
