Camps on the boltimo & ohio
railroad va oct 20th the 1862
My dear Carie it is with
much pleasur that I drop you
thes feu lines I [am] well but vry
tired I hav bin marchen tuo
dayes & had to Stand picket
yesterday & last night I could
Stand it vry well if it was
not for my lgs they giv out
I am a fraid I am takin the
rumatict pains I can feal
that old pain in my hip
also in my legs I had to Stand
picket Six ouers last night it
was vry coald we have movd
further north a bout twenty
miles we ar resten to day the
the rest of ouer bregade are taren
up the railroad they are taren
it all to peaces & burnen it up
I think when we get it tour up
& eate out what thir is hear we
will move further south at least

I hope so I want to go whir thir
is some thin to eate we dont
get nothing hear but a little
beafe & flouer & salt & not
more then half anof of that
I have got So I can eate any
thing & evry thing that comes
befor me I taken a bate of
buef & bread this morning
with out any greace nor
salt Carie I wish I had a meal of
your cuokin & Some of your guod
potatoes it would duo me
so much gu[d]o to eate some of
your cuokin I want to see you
& the children the wost kind I
hope that day is not far ouf
I dont think thir is any yankey
war then the potomac
I could see ther lits last nite
ovr in mary land I think they
are afraid to crous the river &
we are the same my papr is
