Oct 30th the 1862 My Dear Carie I am well
hoping you ar all the same I hav bin marchen
tuo dayes we hav bin going South east
from whir we wer when I wrote to you last
I dont know whir we are going Some ses we are
going to manassas Some ses we are going South of the
blue ridge to put up winter quaters some ses they
are forty thousan yankey south of the blue ridge
so I cant tell whare we are going I dont belive
any one nose but the Janrals we hav had some
coald & wet wether for the last tuo or three dayes
poweful large frost & the ground Stif frose this
is the Smokes country you evr sau it luoks lik
ouer eyes wil go out I had to set up last night tell
twelv oclock cuokin you ought to see me bakin
bisket & boiling buef ouer bisket is vry tuf
nothing in them but Salt & water but
think they go mity well with boild buef that
is ouer living Carie I havn know paper I picked up
this old letter with one side wrote on we are so
far from toun I cant get know paper I am a

best I can duo now I have not heard from you
in three weaks this is the second or third letter I

I went home the other knight I thorte you & I
had a powful time of it I thorte we tuok
a pouful cry oh I wish it hade of bin Sou
I have not heard from brother Sam Sens I sau him in
winchester I hav not heard from J Peak Sens he
left camps Carie you ought to see me & W burke
you would think we wer maried we mes togather
Sleape togather & Stay togather I think he is the
best friend I hav in the company giv my
best lov to all the cornection & enquiren friends
