[October 26, 1862]

my dear wife i take the
oppurtunity of writing you a few lines
to let you know that i am
well at this time hopping thes
few lines may find you the same
way i received your letter and was
glad to hear from you i have
been sick and at the hospital
one month i have had no Chance
to write for we have been on
a force march for the last two month
I want you to send me one pair
of Jeans pants and one shirt and
a pair of woolen sock you stated
in your letter that this redgement
was taken in as conscript
but it is not so i want
you you to write to me
how your Corn Crop is Come out
i want to know whether you
will have Corn enough to do you
or not if you hant write to me
when i draw i will send you
my money only what i
need i want your mother
and sister to stay on with
you till i Come i want to
Come between now and
Christmas if i Can and
if i dont rent the land
out to the best avantage
you can it is a Snowing

going along the roud i was
so sick i had to fall on
side of the road we hav
to go sometimes 7 and 8 miles
before we Could git any drink
of water and when we got
it was pond water when i
was a marching i would
git so sleeppy i Could
hardly stand up i think we
will be stationed on the
railroad this winter it
is thought that will go to
mobile i want a pair
of shoes if you Can
git them and send them
by Captain streatman
when he Comes i want to
know whether you
saved foder enough to keep
the mare if you hant
i will send the money
to buy enough for her
