Summer vill . . . SC September 5 1862
Dear sister i Seat my Self this eavening
to write you a few lines to let you
know how iam getting along iam yet on
the mend I think I will be well in
a week more I have had a verry Bad coald
and cough But iam Better with it I was
Sorry to hear that Pa was not well but
iam in hops that he is Better by this
time oh how I would like to see you
all and talk with you all But I am
in hopes that this was will not last
much longer so the solders can go to
their homes I received a letter from
you to day and oh you dont no the pleasure it
was to read them and hear that you was
all getting along as well as you was sister
you must tell the girls that I would like
to see them and get around a table with
them to make it rise and tell them that
I am going to marry a georgia girl if
I live to see this war ended :: sister I want
you to write in your next letter whether
Pa carried his and Rebeccas and Jimmies
degaratype home or not I dont no whether
my Brother carried it with him or not
when he left the camps to go to the
hospittle . . sister you must write how
grandpa and all the rest of our
kindfolks is if you can hear from them
and if you hear from Pa folks you must
Bee sure to let me no how they are
getting a long . . you musent all studdy
about me no more than you can help
for I am getting along verry well
and we have preeching here evry Saturday
and Sunday and some times in the week
i will try to come home Before i go
to virginia But i dont think ican come
the Dr aint a going to let me come idont
think But i will try him before long

close my letter and Mr M D
is agoing to write some to Pa I havent
received bu[t] too letters from you since Pa
left here you must write oftin
as you can so i must come to a close

Becca ireceived a few lines from you to
day and was glad to receive them you
grievd about your husband
you said I knowed that imised him oh i
do miss him oh we must all prepare
to meet him in heaven and you
wroat abou[t] Jimmie being Smart
I want Becca i cant write much this
time for the sun is about down
now so I will close by saying iremain

Sir as a frend i feel it my Duty to let
you no that i recd the Small not[e] inclose
in your Suns letter it found me in a
bout the Same State of helth that i was in
When you left us at the hospital at
Summerville & my Dear frend i think your
Sun is improving Some little tho it is very
Slow tho if he has good luck he will be able
to get to Duty Some time Soon i feel very mu
ch gratifyed to here of your good helth
& also to here of my Sister & brothers in law
being well & that he has got home a
gain to his family to Stay i am glad
to here of all of my Old State
people for the name of georgia is
S[w]eete in my Ears i am Sorry to here
that you have bin Sick Sence you
left us So my paper is Short i
call a close i am Due you my best
