Dear Brother what
is the reson you do not rite to me you are
the only brother that I have living and I
am anchers to hear from you oftner than
I do and from my aged farther if living
and I can say to you that we are not all
well at this time fer I am labring under
a sevear Cold tho able to set up and
rite you thees few lines hopeing when
thees lines Comes to hand tha may find
you all well I have not heard from you
for Sum time and I want you to rite to me
without fale the times hear are some
what gloomy tho not so much so as tha have
binn produce of all kinds are looking up a
litle Except Corn thare is a bundance of corn in
this Cuntry I want you to rite me the times
thare and what produce is worth and how the
feeling is in that state whether it is younion
or dis younion I can say to you that thare is
[page 2]
a large Majorty in this state that is for the
younion now and for ever and that party is fast
gaining ground tho thare is Som Ablishinets
among us that keeps a continuel Strife and
thare was a grate meny men in this state that
was deluded last fall that voted for lincon
that is now Sick of thare bargon and wold not
do it a gain I want you to reflect that so Long
as the south will stick with the younuin
men of the north thare is no danger but that
will get thar Just rights but when Ever the you
nuin party of thees united States devides thare is danger
of the disunion party getting in power if the South
had went with the uniun party last fall and voted for
Stephan a Douglas we wold not nave had the truble
we have tho the South from the platform that
Mr lincon was Elected on thought that thare
ware no more chance for them meny of them thau
ght that thar slaves wold be freed tho thare is no
danger of that even the republican party who Elected
mr lincon do not want to interfer with slavry whare
it now Exsit thar hole cry is that it Shall not extend
[page 3]
and the Democrattck party of the north say that
the teritories Shall be free and open to the South as
well as the north to take thar property thare
and when the prper number of Enhabatance
gets thare tha shall hav the sole right to say whet
her it Shall be free or slave and that is the
Sentiment of the Democacy hear and I think
that the state that hav all redy ceceded went
very rashely to work for thare has allways bin
a uniun party in power untel now and I thnk
and I thnk that this Short four years will
be a final End to that power ever reviving
Every State shuld have its States rights garenteed to it
and when that is not the case the uniun is at
once broken up so I want you to right to me as
Soon as you receive thees lines and let me now
you all are and how the times is in your part
of the cuntry united we Stand Devided we
fall so fare you well for the presant
