Oct the 18th 1864
Dear Sister it is with love and
pleasure that I Seat my Self this
morning to rite you a few lines
which will in form you that
I am well and harty at this time
and I truly hope when these few
lines comes to your hands that
they may find you all in good
helth for good helth is all the Sad
is faction that I see these days well
Sister I havent any newse worth riting
to you but I will rite a few lines
to you any how the helth of the Regt
is toleble good as fair as i now I havent
Saw the Regt in 8 or 10 days the last
news we got from them the report
was that our Army was at dalton
Ga but I dont rite it for the
truth for we hear sow many lies
that we dont now when to bleav
any thing that we hear we have
bin on a march a bout three weeks
we travel two or three days and

then we stop and rest a day or
two the newse has bin all the time
that we was on our road to Tennesee
but we have bin hear four days
with the waggon train and they
is Some talk now of us a putting
up winter quarters hear and staying
hear til Spring but I dont now
whether it is sow or not the mo
of the waggon train is hear but
the Army I dont now whear it is
we hear sow many tails a bout
it that I cant rite any thing a
bout [?] for I dont now any thing about
it to rite the newse is hear that
the yankees is in Atlanta yet
and our men has got all of the
rail road a bove Atlanta up to
dalton but I dont now whether
it is Sow or not but I am in
hops that it is Sow but I have
heard Sow many lies that I have
got Sow that I dont bleave any
thing that I hear and only bleave
half that I see this Cruel war

Commenced with lies and it will
end with lies if it ever ends and
I am in hops that it will end
before long for I want to go home to
live with my dutch gal for I am
a getting mity tiard of living the way
we haft to live hear we only fair
toleble hear for Something to eat we
only draw beef and Corn meal we got
a nuff meal but the beef that we
get for one days rations only makes
one Small mess but I am with the
waggon train and we can buy
Sweet potatoes and get some
pumpkins and we can buy flour and
we we can sorter make out to live
but it is a hard life but I hop
and trust to god that I may live
threw this war and go home to live
with my dear dutch gal a gain
well polly if we take up
winter quarters hear I want you
to make my dear Carrie and Rip
Come and bring me Some clothes
if Carrie wants to come I want

but if she dont want to come I
dont want hur to any thing that

I rote a letter to Carrie the other day but I
didnt rite for hur to come to see me I did
ent think then that we would stay
hear any time if we dough take up
winter quarters hear i will rite to you
and to my dear Carrie two I can in
form you that I am the nearest
out of clothes that I have bin since
I have bin in this Cruel war well
polly give my best love and
respects to Carrie and tel hur to
rite to me give my respects to all
of my friends I will have to quite
this time you must rite Soon and
