Camped at Ewtaw Green County Ala
November the 30 1864
Dear Sister it is with love and
pleasure that I seat my Self this
morning to rite you a few lines
which will in form you that
I am well and harty at this
time and I truly hope when
these few lines comes to your hand
that they may find you all
in good helth for good helth is
all the Sadis faction that I See
these days dear Sister I havent
any thing to rite to you that
is interesting but I thought I
would rite a few lines to you
to let you now whear I am
and what I am a doing I
am at Eutaw Ala I wating
to get a drove of mules to take
back to the Army we ar a bout
two hundred miles from the
army we brought a bout four
hundred old condemed mules
down hear and they Swap them
for good mules and pay the diff
well polly I can tel you that
we only fair toleble hear in this
war we only git one pound of meat
for four days and that is toleble
Short rations but I have lived
toleble well for the last five weeks
ever Since I left the Army for I hav[?]
lived on Sweet potatoes but I
am about out of money now
and I will haft to quit bying
potatoes dear Sister I am sorry
to tel you that I am out of money
Clothes tobacco and friends
but it is a bout Sow but I will
dough the best I can I hant got
but one old pair of ragged britches
and one old ragged Shirt but I
hope and trust to god that they
is a day a coming when poor
privats will be as free as big
ritch officers This Cruel war is a
rich mans war and a poor mans
fight but I hope that it wont

have very mutch to dough but
the fool Georgia negroes that we
have with us and the body lise
is a nuff to aggrevate any man
to deth but I will try to Stand
them the best I Can well my
dear Sistr I dont think that
I will Stay in this Cruel
war more than forty year longer
now how well polly I want
you and my dear Carrie to rite
to me for I hant heard from
none of my friends in Six month[s?]
the last letter that I got from
Carry was rote the 22 of may
you dont now how bad
I want to See dear
Carrie oh if I only Could See
you all you dont now how glad
I would be when I had to
Come down hear I was in hops
that I would haft to Stay hear
all winter Sow you and my
dear Carrrie Could come to see
me but I haft to go
back to the army just as
quick as we Can get a drove
of mules to take back with
us well polly I want you
to tel my dear Carrie whear I am and
what I am a doing I started a letter
to Carrie the 28 of this month but
I dont now whether She will git
it or not give my respects to all
of my friends and Save a potion
for your self give my best love
and respects to my dear Carrie you
must rite soon and often direct
your letters to the Regt [& the?] Army
of tennesse tel Carrie houdy for
