Camp Howe Dec 16th 1861
Dear Father I have taken the opportunity
of writing you a few lines to let you know
that I am well at this time and I hope
that those few lines may find you all
the Same blesing I have not recived a letter
from you in too months father I want to
try and come home just as soon as I
can but I don't know when it will
be I want to See you all very bad we are
a most don bilding our winter quarters
and I recon that we will move next
tuesday when we move I want to Come
Just as Soon as I can get a furlough to
Come I Shall do So you Said in your
last letter that you had traded puse
for Mrs Cowans mule I recon that you
have made a good trade I would like
to know what you do for Salt if I can
get any chance I will Send you Some
money but I will not send it by mail
that is if you need any money I recived
a letter from you when the lieuteant
Come Back that is the onley letter that I have
recived in two months and I was glad to hear
that you ware a mending So no more at

write as soon as you recive this letter

the lieuteant come Back and was glad
to hear from you & to hear that you was
well from the way you wrote I think
that you are enjoying your Self very
well that is more then I can Say for
I am not enjoying my Self very well
John I would be glad to See you and be
with you a day or So but I dont know
when that will be and you must write
to me as Soon as you get this letter So
nothing more at this time only I remain
your true Brother tell deth.
