Dear Father & mother I now
Embrace the opportunity of writing
you A few lines to inform you
of mi health i am well and
hope when these few lines
Comes to hand they may find
you all well and doing well
I will now inform you that
i received your kind letter
by the hands of Mr Coble
and was glad to hear from
home once more it is the first
letter i have had Since i come
to this place i just Supposd
the mail had Stopet runing
Mr Coble fetched me mi
Shoes flower & some other things
As for flower we can get plenty
hear at 15cts per pound bacon
fifty cts pound molasses one
dollar A quart pees $1:50 cts
per Bushel Chickens one
dollar A piece and

I understand that you have
bought Some Salt and paid
high for it I think that
the neighbors up there had
better make up four or
five hundred dollars and
Send some good trusty
fellow down hear and buy
Salt you can get it hear
at five dollars A bushel
and if the yankies takes this
place Salt will be one dollar
A pound in A few days
if you was to go into Such
A game as that you could run
the salt to the coal fields
on very little Expence
you Said if i needed any
thing to rite for it i can
make out very well i Suppose
for we live sorty hog fashion
Any how and we hant got
Any insure ance of staying hear
long at this time for we

Are Expecting the yankies to take
this place very Soon or at least
they can take it whenever
they want to I will now
inform you that i was glad
to hear from Christopher but
Sorrow to hear was not well
as for news we dont hear much
at this place i want you to
rite to me as often as you

times since i have been hear
but i suppose they hant been
backed rite or Something me
and Causey is working close to
gether now i will get him to
rite for me and i think mi
letters will come direct

uproar at this time they have
orderet thirty thousand troops
hear to try to save the place
and A great many of them is
hear now and come ing Every Day
