a few lines to let you know that
the yankes hasent got me yet but
the are very close to me a litle
[g?ain?] close than I want them [b???]
they hav been close [anough?] [to?]
to shoot at me but not close
[a nough?] to hit me I was [on?]
picket when the was shootin at
me. they hav shot one man in
our regiment but it dident kill
him I will not write much
about the war for I dont know
much to write. I want you to
write to me as soon as you get
this leter for I am getin very
anxious to hear from you I
would hav writen sooner
