Camp Near Washington NC April 17 [Washington, Beaufort County, NC]
My dear Wife I will Write you
afew lines to inform you that I
Have at Last arrived at camp
and am Well I met out Regiment
Coming out from Some fifteen miles
Below Washington yesterday
there is more mud and water in
this Country than I Ever saw
Wee have to waid water waist
deep for nearly Every mile our troop
Has left the place where they Had
forfied and fell Back Some ten
miles wee are now Stoped at a mill
about three mils South of Washington
Where wee Expect to Have a fight
Soon though I cant tell I think
it will Be doubtfull Wheather the
the yankees Will come to us or not
I suppose the yankees Has Bin shelling
our men Round Washington
the Last twenty days But few
of them Has as yet got Hurt

as yet and I Hope none of us
Will I feel very Lonely Since I Left
you all But I Hope to see you all again
Soon I Hope when those Lines Reach
you they may find you Enjoying
good Health and all the children
I Hope I Shall keep well while I Stay
in the army I found all our
Boys well and Harty and Glad
to See me I Saw Billy R?> Bob
& Chales at they was all well
Billy said He Lost His child while
He was at Home I also Saw asher
Green yesterday He was well he is
in the 43 Regt NCT Mr D?>
will Be out Home I think in afew days
He has send up His furlough to our
General and I Hope He will get off
But If He dous not he Says you must
Write How his wife is and write
all the news as I Have nothing
more to write mr chase
