July the 11th 1862 Camp Hombs

I have now concluded to comence a Small letter
but I heant much to right more than I am well
at this time and hoping these few liens may find
you and my babys well I will in form you of my jerney
furst we got to fayettevill a wensday a bout sunset and
we wer marched on the boat and they run all night all
and we got to wilmington next day about 12 oclock we stade
thare about 1 hour and then we wer marched on the car and
started for golesborour and then we begin to travel I thought
we shoud leave the ground but I knew one thing we had sum
weight on her we got to golesborour about dark and stade
thare twil about day and then we got on the train and start
for raleigh and we got to raleigh about 10 oclock and the hole
I rought wer about 285 miles allen camern a man a man from
our county fel off of the boat that night and he was drunk
but as it happened one time in 25 he got to one side and
they stoped and went back and got him out and no damg
dun but he lost his hat golesbour is a purty town and
wilmington looks like it was bilt on the warter we got to
raleigt and met Daniel Dougles and Jeff Thomas afetch
Archa McNeel home I herd from the boys and they
wer well we got to camp hombs a friday about 12
and we got our tents and put them up and got some
cucking utensils Matthew Watson George Luther Roberd
Carpender John Kelley Neill Threlkil stays in
the same tent I do and Sion McAley there is a many of
aman here I dount no how many thousand we
are the 51 regement we have good offesers I think
our company has not ben examond yet and I daunt
no when they will be I daunt no how I shal like
this place yet but ef I can have good helth I think
I can put up with it I daunt know what is agwine

on in camp onely right wher I can see it
if a man dies there is not much sed about it I herd a
man say the gard shot aman the night before we
got here and he was under the doctors hands I see several
here that looks no beter thn Eliga Matthews i heant
ner finished my letter mr Kelley has
now cum and i have got no time
to right I daunt no whethr
i have got time to fix this letter
i heant had no stomack to eat
about ½ of my pevisions spoilt
we have drawed a louans to day
and it is mity little i have sean
you make up as much flour
as we drawd for 18 men
