Mrs. Newsom:
I take this opportunity in convey-
ing the sad and mournful intelligence to you,
which is the death of Your Husband that took
place to day in Battle near this place.
He fell pierced with a ball in the body, not caus-
ing instand death, he lived 4 or 5 hours before he died &
spoke some words about you, in substance to
amount to this, that you must endeavor to meet him
in heaven where war and troubles are not known.
Jesse Newsom is also wounded in the neck, not
considered mortal, but known to be very
painful. The Body of your Husband is now
at the Brigad Hospital, near this place, and
will be intirrd near it, where the bodies of
Several others will lie.
Respectfully Yours &
