Camp Mangum Dec.. the 17th 1861
Mr Joseph Overcash.. far
I take my pen in hand to
inform you that I am well
at this time and hoping
when Those few lines come
to hand you all well I will
try to inform you of our
hear we have a very
pretty camp but we heave to
chop and carry all of our wood
and we heave to carry it long
ways and we cant get oak
wood at that we have to burn
pine wood all the time while
we stay hear but I dont think
we will stay hear more that 2 or 3
weeks we are not fixing for
winter yet an I dont think
we will hear

the agitent General
was hear yesterday to inspect
this Regt and he said he never
Has seen such a Regt in his
lafe he sed that the 34th
was the best Regt he had ever
inspected and he seed it
should be Equipt Right a
way and paid off the Col
gives our Company the Prais
of being the best drilled company
I must close for a while
we drill so much hear that
we cant get Time to write
we heave to drill from .9. oclock
in the morning tell .11. and
from .1. oclock till sun set
and it takes us all ofour time
that we ante drilling to get
wood
