Dear Father
I now take the present
opportunity of writing you a fiew
lines to inform you that I am
well and hoping if theas fiew lines
Come to hand they may find you all
well I have nothing of importance to write
it is reported hier that The Yankees
have taken Carolina city and
Nashvill Tenn but I hope that
it is not true I was very sorry
to hear of Capt Kennely and
his company all being taken
Prisen at ronok but we may [1]
be taken too before a month
we are expecting them a round
hier every day now but I hope
they not come whil it is So cold
but if they come we will do the
best for them that we can we will Stop
Some of them in their wild

We was on picket at the church
yesterday and we heared the old
cannons all day about Washington [2]
I recan that they was firing Salouts
Over the Great victory they gained at
Ronoak they will call it that
but I do not think it is much
honor to them to bring fiftee
thousand again 3 thousan
I have not had a letter from
Alexander for Some time I am
affraid they will get him down
their two We have bin ordered
to Weldon bu the road are
So bad that we could not get our
things to Monnassas That what
lieutenant told us write Soe
I want you to Send me Some of
the best paper that you can get
this is So bad that I can not writ on it
Send it by Starrett if he is comeing
Soone and if not Send it by
mail a half quire of small and
half of as large as this and direct
it to mannassas
