Jan the 6 th [1862]
Dear father & Mother I seat myself to write you a
few lines though I have nothing
of interest to write I am well
at present and have been ever
since I came back to the
army all of the swannanoa
boys are well also all of our camp
is in good health and enjoying
ourselves finely most of our
company is tolerably well provided
with clothing and tents every
thing is still here at present
I do not think there will be
any more fighting here the
ground has ben covered with
snow for several days and
it snowed some yesterday

and is raining to day the
roads are very mudy now abot here
I received a letter from Jane [1]
a few days ago I was glad to
hear from you and to hear that
you was all well though I was
sorrow to learn that b[r]other
Sam was wounded though I
hope he may recover I was also
sorrow to hear of several others
of my acquaintences being kild
and wounded I understand
the tories have broke out in
madison again and that our
men has killed about forty
I hope they may kill the last
one of them before they quit
them tell George Bird that
I am glad to hear that
that he got home safe tell

shortly I have not heard
from William and Porter
since they left I hope
they have got home safe
I want you to write soon
and let me know whether
where sam is and how
he is geting along I would
also like to hear from
John I want you to send
me the asheville news while
we stay here I can get it have
it directed as you direct let[???] [2]
to us and I will get it [???]
tell William to not forget to
bring me them half soles
and all and hammer
so I will bring my letter
