Dear Father and Mother
I seat my self this eve
ning to drop you a few lines
to let you know that I
am well at the presant
hoping these few lines
will find you all well
I wrote to you the 17th but
it is uncertin wheather it ever
went and I thought I would
write a few lines as I have
a chance to send it part of the
way by Mr Roberson it is vary
cold heare now theire was a wrigt
smart snow heare last night
we dont know how soon we will
have to go in to afight
we are in a bout thirty miles
ove Nashville our pickets has a

fight ever few days our sick
men was all sent of the other
day and we got orderss to cook
two days rashions I dont no
what they ment by it
Generall forest is in Command
at this Place I dont know how
many men is heare some say
theire is about ten thousand and
some say about twenty five thou
sand no private can tell if it
s[t]ays as cold as it is now I dont
think theire well be much
mour fighting this winter
we have vary good Company
Officier but I dont know what
about our field Officiers we
hav ben in camp th[r]ee mounth
and our Colnel has not trid
to drill us any yet and he is
not a going to for he dont [rest of letter missing]
