Wayside Hospital No[v] 27 1862
My Deare Wife
I received your welcom
leter last night & was glad to
heare frome you you said that I
did not say anything a bout sending
for you I cant tell as yet whither
I shall stay heare or not the Dr says
he intends to keep me heare all the
winter I am acting as cook now
he says he had rather have me than
any other cook that has been heare
yet he says that he cant tell for
surten whither he can keep me
or not he will know by the middle
of next weak & then if I am detailed
I will come after you & Seaf
The Dr dos not think that I will
be fitt for service this winter he
thinks by keeping me heare this winter
& staying in the house that my
health will improve by the Spring

Dump I wrote to Mr Hight
last night about sending you some
money if he dos not send it soon I
want you to send down & get it
& if you get it I want you to send
me three Dollars tell Buck & also
mention to him about what we
ware taulking about Dump you
do not know how I felt when I
came to the part in your letter whare
you sayed that you had nothing to eat
you know if I was with you that
would not be the case but I do hope
& preay to god that I may have you
with me before long I shall know in
a few days we have a plenty to eat
heare now bacon beef shugar & molases
I got the very best that there is I
stay in the kitchen evry night me &
one more felow we have a large log
fier no one to pester ous we dont
allow any one to come in heare atall

Dump tell Cousin Anie that
I sent Charleys box by the express
& also a bundle for Thomas Pulley
Jacks overcoat I did not send for I was
affred to trust it by the express
I sent his letter to him & wrote
him about his overcoat I exspect
I shall get a letter frome him in
the morning Dump I wish that I
had two hogs heare we have so much
slops & bread I am saving it all I
can sell it all the Stuard says if
I stay heare this winter that I
may get me two The ladys are
very kind to me since I got acquaint
with them they send me milch
evry day I got a large pitcher full
to night it was very nice indeed
tell Mr Hight I sent his letter
to your self untill you heare frome
me again I remain your devoted
housmand give my love to all J. A. Patton
